How to Create eBook Covers using Microsoft Word

There is a lot of potential in Microsoft Word. Its capable of handling a lot of tasks. Advanced tasks such as making logos and visual trademarks. This is another technique I found to be useful when using Microsoft Word so review all the step by steps and image tutorials to get a feel and understanding of this technique.

This is the first and most basic step of them all. This is the image that will be used as the front image of your eBook cover. Be sure to choose wisely. Your eBook's front cover is the most important of all other images, being that it is the first to be seen. Make sure the cover is attractive.

The Image above will be used as my eBook's front cover image. Its a random picture I found while surfing through Google Images. I know, not necessarily the most appropriate image for giving a step by step tutorial on creating eBook covers using Microsoft Word but it should do the trick. Now that I have selected my image to use as the front cover for my eBook cover, I will now be stricken with the task of aligning it in a perfect way for it to look as much as an eBook cover as possible. With Microsoft Word, I may also change the look and feel of the image to make it a different image than it was before. Take a look at the image directly below this paragraph. You will see the difference between the images, both the physical image and the alignment of the images.

This may sound like a repeat of step 1 but it varies with different objectives. Aligning the picture perfectly allows you to make realistic imagery of the product. It all depends on what type of image you are trying to make. Whether its a book cover or just a picture frame, placing the image in different positioning plays a big part in how it will look when its said and done.

When creating an eBook cover using Microsoft Word, you have to make it look as real as possible. As you can see above, image #2 (book cover) is placed differently because its gonna be used for a book cover. The image will look like a book slightly opened, and I will also add a little bit of shadow to the image, making it look more realistic, and bringing a more appropriate look to the eBook cover. Here is a step by step explanation of how to place your images into different positions, in case you are trying to get a more realistic feel for your eBook cover. The image below this explanation is a picture tutorial of how its done. Enjoy!

1. Select the image you will be using for the front of your eBook cover
2. Left-click the image. "You will notice a Green Circle above the image"
3. Left-click the Green Circle and continue to hold down the button
4. Begin moving the mouse in whatever direction you want to while holding down the left mouse button. Once the image has been placed in the position of your choice, simply let go of the left mouse button and you are done

The second image for the side of your eBook cover should be able to perfectly blend in with the front cover. As you can see when looking to the left, you will notice that I used the same image for the front cover as the side cover.

While the image I used will not perfectly blend in with the front cover, its just an example of what you will need to do in order to create an eBook cover using Microsoft Word.

When placing the image together, you will need to resize the image so that it will be able to fit with the front cover image. Look below for the directions on how to resize your images so that you can place it perfectly alongside the front image.

This can be kind of hard, especially for the beginners. This will take patience and keen eyesight. Its not that serious but it will be kind of hard to do. Pay attention closely to how your side image comes to the front eBook cover. This will make it look either real or fake.

If done incorrectly, your side image may look as if it is sitting on top of the front image. As you look to the right, I kind of rushed through it so my cover is an example of a mistake. Make sure you are very careful when placing these images together.

You may notice in the image to the right that the bottom is not completely aligned with the front image, making it look bad. Its not a serious problem but if you want to use these eBook covers created by Microsoft Word for marketing reasons, you will want to get into as much detail as possible.

The third image is the easiest one. Just make an image skinny enough to place at the top or bottom of your eBook cover. This will then make it look as if the book has been opened. This will give you a more professional look.

Simple explanation is to follow the examples listed above and you will have it done simply. Just take a look at the image to the right and you will get a good idea as to what it takes to do so.
